Chris R (id: cjripka) is an ex-military man specializing in attrition. He’s worked with six private companies over the past two years, mainly in the security sector, and while he’s not seeking more clients at the moment will be available to help your organization in early 2009.
Chris was good enough to share some of his recent consulting strategy with us, and we can’t thank him enough for his time !
“There is one [situation] that sticks out above the rest, which I am very proud of. It also happens to be my first [private consulting role] as well. This particular security company was having a hard time keeping employees—they had at the time 120 guards and also several technicians to install security systems and fire alarms.
After spending two weeks evaluating the work environments of each guard post and interviewing the majority of the guards at those posts I was able to gather enough information to conduct a Company Climate Survey. This survey helps me determine the over all view of the employees in the company and help me identify trouble spots. From this survey we determined that the lack of health insurance nor retirement benefits were the problem. It was the lack of communications from the leadership in the office.
After briefing the company owner we came up with a plan to train the leadership on how to be more effective. Once again drawing upon my military background I developed a training plan based on the Primary Leadership Development Course. I explained how it would work to the owner and he signed off on it. Over the course of the next four week ends, we conducted these training days. Each supervisor and manager was trained on communication skills, counseling, training, and several other aspects of being an effective leader."
